Founder: Mike McAlister

Immediately after graduation from Iowa State University, Mike McAlister started his career with Unilever, the company that would be his employer for the next 33 years. During that time his roles of increasing responsibility led to managing the supply chain operations for many top brands including Bertolli and P.F. Chang’s Frozen dinners, Skippy Peanut Butter, Country Crock, Knorr/Lipton Sidedishes and Soup, among many others. Prior to managing supply chains he managed the tactical and strategic food safety programs for the food business. Mike’s 15 years of production plant experience and 16 years of corporate experience gave him a very comprehensive view of the supply chain at the tactical/operational level. Mike is currently the founder of McAlister Tactical Strategies, a consulting company.

Having retired in April 2014, he spent the last 11 years at Unilever in the Planning/Logistics area providing direction to cross-functional teams focused on the short-term planning horizon. During this tenure Mike also served as the Planning resource for multiple new product launches. Prior to the Planning phase of his career, he worked for 5 years managing the corporate quality assurance and food safety programs associated with the majority of the food brands in the Unilever/Bestfoods portfolio. Before relocating to New Jersey for the corporate QA role, Mike spent an eventful 6 years as the quality manager at the Skippy Peanut Butter plant in Little Rock, AR. This proved to be an excellent training ground for what became a solid background for developing and executing effective food safety programs. A stepping-stone to the Skippy role was the assistant QC Manager role for 9 years at the former Bestfoods plant in Summit-Argo, IL where Mazola Oil, Karo Syrup, and Argo Cornstarch were produced. This period was focused on upgrading the GMP’s of an antiquated facility while ensuring the product was meeting all quality standards. The first two years of Mike’s career were spent performing basic microbiological research, which included genetic engineering work that resulted in a patent.

Mike earned a Masters of Engineering Management from Northwestern University (Evanston, IL) and a Bachelors of Science in Microbiology from Iowa State University.

Mike lives in Flemington, NJ and is married with two adult daughters. His interests include playing guitar, photography, riding motorcycles, and travel.
